BRIEF HISTORY OF LAGOS MAINLAND DISTRICT ROYAL RANGERS

The history of Royal Rangers Lagos Mainland District cannot be separated from that of our Great District, ASSEMBLIES OF GOD LAGOS MAINLAND DISTRICT. Our District was birthed on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 by the defunct Lagos District under the leadership of Rev. I. M. Mpamaugo (rtd) and Late. Rev. E. J. Akpabio was the District Commander and Late Evang. Emmanuel E. Nwabueze the then Member of the National Training Team was the Deputy National Commander.
Lagos Mainland District commenced operation as a full District on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 with seven (7) Sections thus: Alapere, Bariga, Ikate, Ketu, Mushin, Shomolu and Surulere. The Section had fifty-six (56) Outposts (Local Churches). Our Pioneer District Superintendent Rev. Pst. Ejikeme Ejim appointed Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa as the First District Commander (DC) we will not forget to note that Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa had been the Sectional Commander of the Ikate Sections in the defunct Lagos District. Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa in turn appointed Rev. Comdr. Godwin. O. Obaseki who was the Sectional Commander under the Alapere Section as the Deputy District Commander (DDC) among other District Officers he appointed to work with him.
Lagos Mainland District Royal Rangers inherited Outpost Council from the then Lagos District in July 2009 DC conducted the first Outpost Council election which brought in Comdr. Frederick Aigbedion as the Council Chairman, Comdr, Onyekachi Chijindu as the Council Vice Chairman. Otusi Chidiebere (Semo) as Council Secretary, Comdr. Princwell Chikwendu as Council Provost Commander, Comdr. Chinagorom Ubani now Mrs. Chinagorom Shadrack Nwachukwu as Council Assist. Secretary. Comdr. Michael Arthur as Council PRO and Comdr. Joshua Anosike as Council Financial Secretary.
After few months of the Outpost Executive Inauguration by the DC, the Council under the leader ship of Comdr. Frederick Aigbedion created other units for easy administrative and operational purposes; Council Project and Equipment were headed by Comdr. Jonathan Igoni and Comdr. Edet Ukeh respectively. Comdr. Victor Edet was later appointed into Council Sports Unit to take over from Comdr. Gracious Atalobhor in 2013. Victor Edet was later moved to Council Program Coordinating Officer.
Comdr. Frederick Aigbedion piloted the affairs of the Outpost Council from July 2009 till 2018 when the District Commander saw no need to operate Outpost Council parallel with the District Royal Rangers Command, the Outpost Council was dissolved and some of the officers were appointed into District Offices to make the district administrative procedures “one-link” to Sections and to Outpost.
Between 2009 and 2015 the Sections had increased from 7 to 12 Sections, with additional five (5) Sections created thus: Aguda, Akoka, Isheri, Mende and Ogudu Sections. Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa had twelve (12) sections to work with.
In 2015 after our Late District Superintendent Rev. J. U. Okorie was elected DS, under his leadership, he created additional five Sections to make it 17 sections. Ajegunle, Ebute Metta, Itire, Mushin Central and Oworo were the sections. As more sections were created, more Sectional Commanders were appointed and more responsibilities for DC to manage Rangers, Physically, Mentally and Spiritual. (General wellbeing of the boys) In 2018 additional 3 sections were created making the sections the total of 20 sections.
The new sections were. Elebiju, Mile 12 and Magodo Section. The pioneer Sectional Leader of Magodo Section, Rev. P. I. Vincent saw the need to inaugurate Royal Rangers in the section, he called the DC to establish Royal Rangers in the Section. The DC Led Joshua Anosike, Victor Edet, Ambrose Ehiosun and Chinagorom Ubani among others to achieve the goal with Comdr. Ifeanyi Elekwachi appointed the Sectional Commander of Magodo Section.
In 2021 Rev. E. O. Awazie who was elected District Superintendent created Gbagada and Ijesha Express Sections bringing the total number of sections with the Lagos Mainland District to 22 Sections. Royal Rangers of Lagos Mainland District grow alongside District. Under the Leadership of Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa, through the Council, Trainings and Certifications were achieved such as Basic First Aid, Safety and Security, Officer Orientations, Beyond Limitation at Agbowa-Ikorodu and other indoors trainings.
Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa led Lagos Mainland District Royal Rangers (LMDRR) to her first annual camping in 2021 and second in 2023. He planning for the 3rd before he was promoted in 2023 to resume as a Sectional Leader in Akoka Sections in January 2024. Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa was the First District Commander commanded the district from 2009 to 31 Dec. 2023 (15 years). Under his tenure, 3 DDCs had worked with him; Rev. Comdr. G. O. Oberseki (2009 to 2013) Comdr. Abraham Moses (2013 to 2017). When Comdr. Abraham Moses left the District. The District Operated without DDC office till 2021 when Rev. Comdr. Bright Nkwocha appointed by the DC to DDC office. Rev. Comdr. Bright took over from Rev. Comdr. M. I. Aifuwa and became the 2nd District Commander in January 1, 2024. However, this appointment did not last as he (Rev. Bright) was Moved by Presbytery of AGLMD to coordinate the District Men’s Ministries in that same month. Rev. Bright became the Only DC who commanded the district for 3 weeks. Rev. Col. Ernest Nazufu became the 3rd District Commander from January 22, 2024 till date.
Lagos Mainland District is one of the Districts in Southwest Zone 2 of the General Council of Assemblies of God Nigeria.
